Together We Are Stronger

PBIS Assemblies
Our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) committee at PHE has been reviewing our school programs to improve our school climate.  One area we have focused on improving are our Character Assemblies.  While last year the assemblies highlighted character traits that contribute to a positive climate, starting in November of this school year, we added an emphasis on celebrating our diverse community.  This past month, we had a school-wide focus on "Creativity" and "Black History Month".  You may review a list of past and upcoming assembly topics by clicking on the following link. STEM Mania!
Thanks to the support of our PTA, PHE was able to host both a STEM assembly during the school day and an evening STEM Fair in January.  Our STEM Fair was an evening filled with amazing student displays of their learning.  Various projects were set up in the classrooms, while live science demonstrations took place in the MU.  Our corridors were filled with family and community members who explored the science extravaganza!  I was very impressed with the ingenuity on display from students of all ages.  Click on the following link to view a short video clip of one of our budding scientists explain her project!  First Grade Project

#DinoStrong
The past month has been very busy, but what I'm most proud of are the tight bonds that hold this community together.  When we heard the tragic news of Ryan Joseph's injury, our community felt the sense of urgency to show that we care, which spurred staff members and parents to rally to show support for one of our members in need.  The Community of Pleasant Hill Elementary raised over $3,000 from bracelet donations and has partnered with Round Table Pizza for monthly fundraising nights.  Stay Dino Strong, Ryan!  Once a Dino, always a Dino.

Our School Site Council (SSC) approved our 2017- 2018 Safety Plan earlier this month.  The approved plan will now be presented to the MDUSD School Board for review and final approval.  The SSC meets monthly to primarily review progress on our school's goals. In addition to a final review of our safety plan, school performance data will be shared at our next meeting.  If anyone is interested in learning more about how our school is doing, come join us on March 1 at 3:00 pm!
