Keeping the Love of Learning Alive!

"Look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see, and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious." - Stephen Hawking

Eager Readers!
The month of March has seemed to pass by so quickly.  PHE has been buzzing with a wide variety of learning experiences for our students.  The month started off with a school-wide celebration of reading as we had a Dr. Seuss inspired spirit week for Read Across America.  It was a wonderful opportunity to take a little pause and appreciate the joy of reading.  Pictured is one of our first grade classes in the midst of a read-a-thon.
Students also attended Character Assemblies which focused on Women's History Month and were encouraged to read more about the important contributions women have made to our country's history.  When students were asked to identify a woman they admired, they provided a wide-range of responses including Rosa Parks, Hillary Clinton, and Michelle Obama.  The most popular response we heard, however, was "my mom".

Wondering How to Catch a Leprechaun?

For St. Patrick's Day, our second graders got a wonderful opportunity to apply their learning in the creation of Leprechaun Traps!  This STEAM aligned activity combined many skills to create simple machines designed to catch those elusive leprechauns.  The students designed, built, then presented their projects to their respective classes.  I heard a rumor that some leprechauns visited the school, but unfortunately, were able to make their escape.  Maybe we'll have better luck capturing one next year!  It was incredible to watch the students display their curiosity in how these contraptions were designed to trap those pesky leprechauns.

Parent Events
We hosted our very first PHE Variety Show this past week.  Thanks to the supportive efforts of our parents, this event was able to have a very successful debut.  A wide range of talents were showcased, from dancing, playing instruments, to singing!  A great time was had by all.

After Spring Break, we will be hosting the 2nd Trimester Awards Assembly followed by a special Principal-Parent Coffee held in our STEAM lab on 4/11.  I hope many of you will be able to join us to explore the makerspace and watch the premier of our latest PHE productions video featuring our very own students!

Coming up at the end of April is one of our most important fundraising and community-building events, the Spring Gala!  Please join us for an evening of entertainment as we work to raise funds for some of our school's most prized programs, including the STEAM Lab.  Click here for more detailed information on the PHE Masquerade Gala.
