                                         The Great Kindness Challenge
Last week a wave of kindness spread across our school.  From TK to 5th grade, students participated in the Great Kindness Challenge.  I was very impressed with the high levels of participation in not only the spirit days, but taking the challenge seriously.  During our Character Assemblies in January students were introduced to the challenge and then also reminded of the importance of Black History Month in February.  In this way the challenge was just the beginning of a monthlong celebration of treating each other with respect and kindness.

Safety First
During both the Parent-Principal coffee and School Site Council meeting, school safety was the focus.  Our Parent-Principal coffees are a great opportunity to share perspectives of what is happening across our campus.  Our coffees are always informal and meant to create a comfortable and relaxed space for us to connect!  Each year the SSC is charged to review our official school safety plan and ensure that we are doing our best to address student safety needs.  The plan will be formally approved at our February 21 meeting.  The SSC meetings are more structured and formal, but are always open to the public for input.

Checking In
The time period of December and January is typically used as a time for reflection and reenergizing!  I hope you were all able to take advantage of the opportunity to connect with your child's teacher in December for Parent-Teacher Conferences.   In January students across our campus have been taking the second iReady Diagnostic as a check in on student learning.  With this information, grade level teams have been determining what adjustments might need to be made to instruction in order to best support student learning.  Remember our doors are always open to you.  Just because conference time is over, doesn't mean the communication stops.  Reach out to your teacher if you have any questions so that you can stay connected to all the great learning happening at PHE!
